Literary Commentary on Thomas Hobbes, Jean-Jacques Rousseau, and John Locke
The above mentioned title provides insight for this page. I will be reading The Leviathan by Thomas Hobbes, Of the Social Contract by Jean-Jacques Rousseau, and Two Treaties of Government by John Locke. I plan to read these books at the same time, taking notes, and then uploading my commentaries for each chapter [collection of pages I had read for that week, chapter divisions are not conveniently present in each of these books].
My goal is to compare and contrast the themes/ concepts of these books, and gain a broader understanding of political thought. I have never read these books, but I know the general ideas of each author from independent research. I will be honest, as of now I believe I will enjoy and relate most to Thomas Hobbes book Leviathan.
Who knows where this journey will take me, a journey commonly charted by high schoolers in history class. Yet I am 26 and doing this whimsically for the thrill of reading classical political thought literature.
A little about me before I begin my reading and my reports to you:
My name is ____ I am __ years old, I am from _____________ and I worked for __________. I live in _______ and I am master of _________ and have an IQ of ___. I love to _____ and spend time with my _____. I enjoy doing hard things and I easily get inspired by new ideas and concepts. Jesus Christ is Lord.
And so it begins.
